Darian and I met Freshman year at The University of Texas at Austin (Hook ‘em Horns!) through his best man, Jacob. After the university had been sending out mass emails about a suspicious person wandering campus, me and my friends were terrified when we noticed a man dressed in a black trench coat following us in the middle of the night. We ran back to our room and a few minutes later saw the suspicious looking man being questioned by authorities outside of my sister’s dorm room window. We were later told that our friends had asked Darian to scare us since he was an unfamiliar face to us.
Following “the prank,” we spent countless hours laughing and talking in the dorm where we ultimately developed deeper feelings for each other. We met up everyday after class to grab lunch which eventually led to date nights, volunteer projects, and attending church together. We were inseparable to the point where our friends instantly knew to contact the other when they couldn’t find one of us. 4 ½ years later, the lightheartedness and love have never left our relationship! I am so thankful God has brought us together. I knew he was “the one” early on when I started imagining what our life would be like 10 years later (sshhh don’t tell him that!) He is my best friend and I look forward to going on this journey called life with him!
HOW WE MET
According to Jennifer
According to Darian
I met Jennifer my freshman year of college (Hook ‘em Horns) and had you asked me then if I thought I’d wind up marrying her, considering the circumstances under which we met, I would have most assuredly answered with the most sarcastic “Yeah right” I could muster, although I hoped for the contrary.
The story begins when my buddies, Jacob and Uzoma detail a plan they have to prank a group of their friends. They ask if I want to partake, and I oblige without hesitation, perhaps fueled by my acute boredom. The group of friends was, in fact, a group of their females friends, only one of whom I had shared previous acquaintance. The aim was to scare them on their walk back to the dorm, so I put on the most ridiculous outfit I could find (black trench coat, face mask, a black Indiana Jones-style fedora) and head out of the door to rendezvous with the girls. I follow behind them and wind up chasing them back to their dorm room. Unfortunately, my stunt had also managed to scare a number of other students who had, by this point, called the police and alerted them of my presence.
I should mention here that at the time, there was an actual alleged criminal who had been plaguing campus, described donning something very similar to what I decided to wear that night. This of course, had no bearing on my decision to execute the prank. Needless to say, I wound up face down in the grass, outside of the dormitory, with two armed police officers standing over me, barking orders that attract the attention of the entire surrounding student population. I am eventually let go (with a warning), and I retreat to their dorm room where I met the girls I’d just terrorized. I am met by the glare of the most unimpressed, aggravated (and beautiful) girl of the bunch… Jennifer Hannah.
Being a firm believer in the adage, “first impressions are everything,” I thought for sure that this would be the last time I ever spoke to her, but I suppose, in retrospect, my stunt was the launching point for a world of other excitement.

As told by Jennifer
All I can say is WOW! It was the weekend of my 24th birthday and Darian took me to an intimate dinner with my sister and her boyfriend at the time to Americas (River Oaks) in Houston, Texas. It was a romantic dinner and I had the chef's special, corn crusted snapper with steak and lobster. By the time we got our appetizers, I looked over to see my twin sister, Jessica, wiping her eyes. She laughed it off, saying that her contacts were irritating her, which I later found out were tears of joy.
Soon after reading the first line, I noticed that the description of the Cocoa Tart had nothing to do with its ingredients. It was a poem! My heart immediately dropped, as I was met with both confusion and excitement. I thought "O.M.G. THIS IS IT!!!" Tears started flowing down my face as I saw my soon to be husband get down on one knee.... But the story doesn’t end there!!
Not thinking anything of it, I continued eating my delicious dinner. The night was full of love, fun, and laughter. After dinner, I was absolutely stuffed. Our friendly waiter asked if we had room for dessert and I kindly declined. After Darian encouraged me to look at the dessert menu I grabbed it to check out the different options.
Afterwards, in the car ride to happy hour (or so I thought), I was overcome with excitement, planning different ways to announce our engagement to my family and friends. We walked into the A. Loft Hotel, and saw all of my nieces and nephews holding a sign in the main lobby that read "What Did She Say?” My heart dropped, shocked by the surprise engagement party. I was blessed with the presence of my family and close friends. I honestly cannot imagine anything that would have made me happier on this day…This was hands down one of the BEST DAYS OF MY LIFE!
